Empowering individuals through the art and science of daily life.

Our experienced occupational therapists are here to support your child, teen or young adult in building confidence in their sensory, motor, and organizational skills, making daily activities easier and more manageable.

"I believe in you!"

  • You don't have to navigate this alone.

At MotorWorks Therapy, we believe every child deserves to feel confident, capable, and supported in daily life — even when facing challenges.

Our therapists help children, teens, and young adults build practical skills, develop effective strategies, and gain the support they need to thrive at home, at school, and in their community.

  • Who we help

We work with children, teens, and young adults ages 4–24 experiencing challenges with daily tasks related to:

    • Learning differences

    • Developmental delays

    • Neurodevelopmental disorders

    • Sensory processing differences

    • Post-trauma challenges

    • Limited experience or exposure

  • How we help

Our therapists have advanced training in sensory integration and specialize in supporting:

    • Sensory processing challenges

    • Gross, fine, and visual-motor delays

    • Visual-perceptual difficulties

    • Executive functioning challenges

These difficulties can impact learning, behavior, independence, and everyday routines.

At MotorWorks Therapy, we create individualized, goal-focused programs designed to help children feel more confident, capable, and successful — moving from “I can’t” to “I did it.”

Why Families Choose MotorWorks Therapy

We recognize and celebrate each child’s unique strengths while supporting the challenges that may affect confidence, learning, and participation in daily life.

Our approach is compassionate, neuro-affirming, and evidence-based. We prioritize safety, connection, and meeting each child where they are while providing the right level of challenge to encourage growth and development.

Why Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy helps people develop the skills needed for everyday life — from school and play to friendships and independence.

By strengthening physical, cognitive, sensory, and emotional skills, occupational therapy helps children participate more fully and confidently in the roles that matter most to them.

  • Facilitating sensory processing and organization of input, supporting nervous system regulation, motor development, and praxis so clients feel grounded and capable in their bodies.

  • Strengthening the cognitive functions needed to set a goal, plan the steps, complete a task, and adapt to unexpected changes.

  • Fostering cognitive flexibility by helping clients visually understand what they see and use that information effectively in their daily routines and academics.

  • Play-based, motivating, and physically challenging activities, as well as curriculum-based motor programs, to strengthen muscles, develop coordination, and dexterity for daily tasks.

  • Ready to find the right support?

I take a collaborative, creative approach to therapy, working closely with each child, teen, or young adult, as well as their family and support network, to develop a program tailored to their unique needs and goals.

  • Together we can make a plan that works.

Whether it’s staying focused in class, completing schoolwork or everyday tasks, maintaining routines, or feeling confident in movement and coordination, we provide a practical, individualized treatment plan that helps build experience, confidence, and independence.

During our initial consultation, we will determine together whether occupational therapy is appropriate for your child, teen, or young adult. If deemed beneficial, we will schedule an evaluation, followed by a written report and a meeting to discuss the results and recommendations.

Through individual or group therapy, summer intensives, or consultative services, we collaborate with families and organizations, focusing on real-life skills that make a meaningful difference at home, at school, and in the community.

  • Where work is disguised as play.

Therapy is both an art and a science.

While our clients are having the time of their lives, we are carefully orchestrating the work beneath the play by modifying the environment, materials, and expectations to create a just-right challenge that supports success and builds foundational skills.

Playful, novel experiences safely stretch their comfort zones, supporting self-regulation and brain development. When a child is intrinsically motivated to engage in an activity, they learn faster and are more likely to generalize the skills acquired during therapy sessions.

An Environment Designed for Growth

- Our Studio

Located in the heart of Petaluma—a community we love for its small-town feel and vibrant energy—our clinic is a safe space for exploration.

Grounded in the work of Dr. Jean Ayers, founder of sensory integration, our clinic offers specialized sensorimotor experiences that enrich all of the sensory systems through movement and exploration, supporting motor development, regulation, and higher-level learning.

Our 2,000-square-foot space is designed to foster growth, connection, and joy using a variety of therapeutic equipment. Featuring a swing structure for motor planning, balance, and coordination, climbing opportunities for strength and confidence, a tactile area for sensory exploration and awareness, and a fine motor room for hand skills, handwriting, and visual perceptual tasks.

Meet Cathie Wiggs,
Founder of MotorWorks Therapy

As a pediatric occupational therapist, I have dedicated my career to helping children, teens, and young adults feel confident, capable, safe, and more independent in their daily lives. I founded MotorWorks Therapy because I saw a vital need for dynamic, comprehensive sensory-motor services right here in Petaluma—a place where families previously had very few options for the specialized support we provide. I love this town—it’s small but mighty, and I wanted to create a clinic that reflects the same vibrant, safe, and welcoming community spirit.

As an Occupational Therapist, my job is an art and a science. When you walk into the studio, you might see a child or a young adult having the time of their life, on an obstacle course, following a recipe or making a craft. But beneath the surface, I am carefully modifying the environment and expectations to stretch their comfort zone without overwhelming their nervous system.

I live here in Petaluma with my wonderful son and fluffy cat. I love traveling to see live music and spending time with my family and in nature. I understand and appreciate what it means to be part of a strong community and want that for others. I hope to bring that same value to MotorWorks Therapy, so families feel valued, welcomed, and connected.
